This research project titled Social Sustainability in Biodiesel Production: Brazil and Timor-Leste is a Phd research project based at the Institute for Sustainable Futures, University of Technology Sydney, Australia.
Brazil and Timor-Leste were chosen as the fieldwork sites due to their differing experiences in implementing government led biodiesel-for-rural-development programs (Brazil super experienced and organised vs. Timor-Leste trialling a small pilot project). There are quite a few similarities in the overall goal of their biodiesel programs such as rural development and social inclusion outcomes.
Approx. 20 farmers were interviewed in Bahia, Brazil and 12 farmers in Timor-Leste.
